Chapter 46-Jumoke of Jay on Life and The Triple Cripples

Truly hope you enjoy and are inspired by this week’s episode with Jumoke.

In this chapter, Jumoke talks about moving to London from Nigeria at an early age, after having been diagnosed with polio. She started on the lawyer route in school, and even though she did well, she knew it was not for her. Jumoke shares how she switched to studying media before she told her parents, who in the end supported her decision. She glows about the guidance and foundation that her parents have given her to prepare her to succeed in her life. Jumoke discusses being told, and feeling like she wasn’t Black enough, why she has a fire to do all of the adventurous things she can now, and why she says she’ll never compromise herself when dating.

This is a line of a poem that has been an inspiration to Jumoke:

and you tried to change didn’t you? closed your mouth more tried to be softer prettier less volatile, less awake but even when sleeping you could feel him travelling away from you in his dreams
