Chapter 113-Youmie of Flex-N-Fly

Truly hope you enjoy and are inspired by this week’s episode with Youmie.

In this chapter, Youmie shares her earliest memory of migrating from Haiti to New York. She says the kids in school made fun of her for speaking three other languages- Creole, French, and Spanish in addition to English. Youmie tells us about the tender and precious relationship she has with her mother and describes how moving to New York impacted their relationship. She also gets into why she believes her sister is her soul mate.

Youmie goes back to volunteer in Haiti and expresses why she feels survivor’s guilt for being able to leave the island. She’s done a lot of work to construct her mindset, feed her ambitions, and believes that her circumstances and travel have helped her to reach for her soul work.

Youmie very much embodies being intentional and ethical about how she travels, which has included taking a break from Europe, and grounding in the community in Colombia where she got to know the people she hired to work on her business. We also talk about how tourists are often charged more than locals when traveling, and how that ties into capitalism.

Youmie has created an in-flight wellness program and is working on having a physical space in several airports around the world. She’s also designed a travel yoga mat and a travel bag. She says she’s conscious about being in community with people who’ve helped her to build her brand and she discusses the power of seeing and understanding the people who support you. Shout out to Nikki Porcher of Buy From a Black Woman and Ashton August of Yogi Approved.

Youmie wants you to say hi to her if you see her in person, and share her work and her yoga products. You can find her work on her website where she wants you to sign up for her newsletter and make a donation so she can buy bubble tea. You can also connect with her on TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram. And she also wants you to support the non-profit Buy From a Black Woman.
